Why Trump Opposes Abortion, But Not So Much Gay Marriage

0

I will say one thing. I’m a strong Christian conservative. But the fact that two dudes down the street can “marry” each other does not in the slightest way affect my ability to pursue the sanctity of marriage between one man and one women under God in my own life.

The “act of marriage” is a holy act ordained by God.

The English word “marriage” holds no such holy value.

If two dudes want to call themselves “married,” I see that as a semantic issue. As a Christian, I wouldn’t allow their semantics to influence my act. We have much more important issues to take care of in our own house, like 50% of our Christian pastors having a pornography problem, 50% of our Christian marriages ending in divorce, and 70% of our Christian children walking away from their faith when they leave home.

Granted, it would be nice if we could have an English word that described the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman under God. Progressives would deny us the use of such a word. If we say we want to call what we do “Righteous Marriage,” they would say that their marriage is righteous too. They would probably let us own the title “Bigot Marriage” to define what we do, but we probably wouldn’t want to be identified that way.

So here’s the question – are we going to fight in the Supreme Court over the semantic use of the English language? Or as Christians are we going to do the work of the Great Commission to win over the souls that were written before time in the Book of Life?

Frankly, I’ve put on my big boy pants and I’m over it. If they want to call themselves married, it has no effect on my life as a Christian, except to the extent that I feel compassion towards them because of their misguided direction, and as a result of that compassion I will try my best to bring them to the love of Jesus Christ.

I believe Trump is probably more advanced in his intellectual understanding of this than most of my pontificating Christian brothers and sisters. The Constitution does not guarantee Americans the right to exclusively define what an English word means. Gays have lived together for millennia. The Constitution does not guarantee those of us that disagree with their lifestyle the right to say that they can’t call what they do “marriage.”

On the other hand, the Constitution does protect and value human life, thus the abortion issue indeed has Constitutional implications. It is fair for Trump to recognize that Roe v. Wade has created an outcome that is in conflict with the Constitution and needs Judicial adjustment.

I see no issue with Trump accepting the Supreme Court decision regarding gay marriage, yet rejecting the Supreme Court decision regarding abortion. His nuanced position actually jives most closely with the Constitution. If you are a Constitutional Originalist, you can’t pick and choose when you want to become a Constitutional Activist because something like homosexual marriage just seems like it shouldn’t be legal. That would make you just as much of an activist as the progressive activist on the bench! You either support the Constitution or you don’t, or you work to amend it.

We must allow Trump some maneuver room. Remember, he was alive for the 1968 Race Riots. He knows where the current craziness could end up. He must navigate gracefully through the months ahead and try to quell the anger in the streets.

Our country is very divided and 42% of America literally hates Trump after the liberal media (and the establishment Christian right) has demonized him for over a year and indoctrinated the liberal base to the point where they believe he is Hitler reincarnated. Let him make it to the front door of the White House and allow him to secure a bit broader support before the culture wars begin.

Trump is actually smarter than you or I. Try not to be a backseat driver. Support our new President, and see where it goes. He has literally done more for the Christian cause than any Presidential candidate in modern history!
